JOHANNESBURG – The City of Johannesburg said it’s disappointed that there’s corruption within its ranks after the city’s investigation unit arrested an employee at the office of the ombudsman for alleged fraud.
The investigator is accused of soliciting bribes from Johannesburg residents.
The City says it has identified that there’s a scourge of corruption in the revenue department, which it is now clamping down on.
Forensic and Investigation Services Unit spokesperson Lucky Sindane said, “we’re so disappointed because this is where people come to report cases when they’ve exhausted all other avenues.
“It is clear to us that this employee was not working alone because he doesn’t have the capacity to write off people’s deaths, so it is clear to us that he’s working with people at the revenue department and we wanna send out a message to them that we are coming for them.”
The suspect is expected to spend the weekend behind bars.
