CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) – The city of Cedar Rapids is warning residents of an imposter trying to pass themselves off as a city employee. In a release issued by the city’ Assessor’s Office, people are warned that an individual has been going to homes claiming to be an employee of the department.

The person then requests to perform a home inspection or attempts to learn if a property is vacant and if the reason behind that is the derecho. The statement from the city does not indicate if the person making these claims is a man or woman.

The Assessor’s Office reminds everyone that its staff carry a city-issued ID badge and that appraisal staff have their photos available on the department’s website as an additional way to confirm their identity.

The release states if someone does approach your property claiming to be an employee of the department, but lacks the proper I-D, contact the Cedar Rapids Police at 319-286-5491.
