Hillcrest High School and Jordan Valley School were put on “shelter in place” status Tuesday afternoon as police searched for an armed robbery suspect in Midvale.
A shelter in place status means the school is locked from the outside, but business goes on as usual within the school.
According to police, the man robbed Stitched Specialties at 7343 South and 900 East.
The suspect robbed the store with a handgun and got away with with some cash.
No injuries were reported.
Police are actively searching for the suspect, who fled the store on foot.
It is possible that the suspect ran into a nearby apartment complex, Royal Ridge Apartments at 880 East Canyon Ridge Way.
The schools being put on shelter in place was a precaution, police say. There is no imminent threat to the schools.
The suspect is described as follows:
5 feet 8 inches tall
Olive colored skin
Wearing tan pants
